Signing Up to Fight Climate Change

If you’re like I am and want to do something about climate change there are options. Making individual changes in one’s lifestyle for the environment (as I do recommend on this blog) is great but when it comes to climate change we need to organize.  This threat is way too big for individuals to fight on their own. Though there are numerous environmental organizations around, in my research 350.org is the largest dedicated to climate change alone.  They have a world-wide reach that provides education, resources, and opportunities to get involved through online and local campaigns.

According to their website, “350.org was founded in 2008 by a group of university friends in the United States along with author Bill McKibben, who wrote one of the first books on global warming for the general public. The goal was to build a global climate movement. 350 was named after 350 parts per million — the safe concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”

When you sign up you have the opportunity to help in numerous ways with options to connect with your local community.  They even supply talking points to doubters. If you live in the greater Portland, Oregon area as I do, go directly to the 350PDX website for local opportunities.

This organization is focused mostly on the fossil fuel industry.  Though I believe climate change is also heavily related to consumption and our capitalistic system, 350.org is a good place to start.
